It is an interview with one of the owners of Honest Kitchen Dog Food. Below is a snippet of the post.

“Our human-grade status is a major differentiator. Our products are made in a human food facility on the exact same equipment used to produce various foods people eat. That really strikes a chord with consumers and sets us apart from lower quality, feed-grade manufacturers.

We’re extremely selective when it comes to our suppliers, too. We’ve worked with many of the same producers since we began in 2002 and insist that all suppliers sign an annual “Vendor Pledge” to provide assurance of the quality and integrity of the ingredients we buy. We won’t use GMO or irradiated ingredients, and don’t accept any ingredients from China.

We also don’t allow our products to be sold in stores that sell puppies; I’m strongly opposed to the puppy mill trade and believe that a responsible breeder’s animals would never end up in a shop (or a shelter).”

There are many benefits to giving your pet organic dog treats and food. You want your pet to have the best and organic is the best you can feed your pet. Most dog products have synthetic preservatives, dyes, by-products, bulk fillers and grain remnants. This is true even of the products that state they include organic and healthy ingredients. There is a big difference between including and being healthy or organic. You will need to read the ingredients to know what you are truly getting.

When it comes to organic pet products you want to look for certain ingredients and avoid others. First look at the meats in it. Are they identified, as in chicken or beef, or is it a generic meat or by-products? Of course avoid it if the meat is not identified, the same with by-products. The by-products are actually all the parts that are not meat. These are the stomach, liver, intestines, heart, brain, and lungs.

Any filler should not be corn or wheat gluten meal as these have no nutritional value. These should be a meal made from meat and the meat should be identified. Any grains should be whole grains not grain remnants. There should be fruits and vegetables. The necessary vitamins and minerals must be included. Natural preservatives can be used but no food coloring.

If you choose products that include the above, your dog may show improvements in their coat, breath, and energy. Since the food and treats are organic the quality is vastly improved. With more quality food your dog will benefit from better digestion. This leads to better absorption of the vitamins and minerals in what they eat, which leads to an improved immune system.

Weight can be an issue for pets just as it is for humans. Increased weight can lead to many conditions and illnesses. A nutrition packed diet leads to less eating and greater energy. This means more exercise which has its own benefits.

Organic dog treats and food can be homemade but it is not the same, since the additional vitamins, supplements and minerals would not be added. Your pet needs these for optimal health. They may experience better eyesight, sharper senses, increased muscle strength and increased hydration. You may not need to visit the vet as often and may avoid some allergies. Organic is best and you want the best for your dog.

If you are searching for a more holistic approach to your dog’s food allergy problem, Sojos Grain Free Natural Dog Food Mix may be the hypoallergenic dog food your pet needs.

You see, Sojos is completely natural – no additives, no preservatives, no artificial anything. Everything in the ingredient list is actual food that you’ve already heard of – like sweet potatoes, carrots, broccoli, celery, apples, whole eggs, flax meal, parsley leaf, calcium carbonate, carob powder, kelp powder, alfalfa, ginger root, and garlic.

Each ingredient in this hypoallergenic dog food has a purpose. For instance, the vegetables and fruit provide essential vitamins and fiber that your dog needs for a balanced meal. Whole eggs not only act as a protein source, but also help add a beautiful and lustrous sheen to your pup’s coat.

Flax meal is a natural antihistamine and also works to make the hair softer (among other benefits as well). Parsley leaf helps freshen the breath so your dog doesn’t have the typical unpopular “dog breath”. Calcium carbonate is just what it sounds like – a calcium source. Carob powder adds flavor and gives your dog a little energy boost – it’s chocolate for dogs. Kelp powder helps decrease shedding and has more vitamins and minerals than I can list here.

Alfalfa strengthens joints. Ginger root is great for dogs with sensitive digestive systems as it “settles” the stomach. Garlic is a natural flea and tick repellent, adds flavor, and has so many benefits, you’d need a book to list all of them.

Simply add the Sojos Grain Free Natural hypoallergenic dog food mix to some meat and a little bit of water, and let it soak up the juices before serving it to your beloved canine. What could be a better way of showing your pup how much you love her – besides letting her sleep on the bed while you sleep on the floor (which probably isn’t going to happen)?

It’s heartbreaking to watch your beloved dog suffer from food allergies. The diarrhea, bloating, vomiting, shaking, itching, scratching…the list of symptoms vary and are too many to list here.
If your dog has been diagnosed to have a sensitive digestive system, or as having a food allergy by a veterinary professional, try switching his food to Eagle Pack Hypoallergenic Dog Food.

The ingredients in Eagle Pack Dog Food are all-natural and human-grade. Plus, the company adds vitamins and minerals – including at least eight holistic custom supplements – to make sure your beloved pet gets the most nutritional benefits from the food.

Some of the added supplements include digestive enzymes, which are beneficial especially to dogs with super-sensitive digestive systems. Eagle Pack also adds probiotics to reduce intestinal gas and prebiotics to increase the absorption of nutrients. Antioxidants are added to reduce skin, respiratory, allergy and immune disorders and to improve the cardiovascular and general health of your dog.

And if you are like most pet owners, you probably don’t enjoy smelling stinky dog feces. No worries here – Eagle Pack Dog Food has yucca in it to reduce the “stinkiness” of your dog’s excretia.

So if reading the ingredient list makes you say, “Wow – that sounds good enough for me to eat,” that’s because it is.

A lot of people are saying that dog’s don’t digest grain well and that it is not really necessary in their diets. If a food contains a lot of grains, it tends to have less of the nutrients that a dog does really need. Taste of the Wild is the grain-free food I use and my dog does really really well on it. They have a long explanation about their ingredients on their website that may provide more information for you: http://tasteofthewildpetfood.com/products/ingredients/

low carB (not low carD)

Actually HD is not a bad product for a canned food. A dry comparison to about 40% protein.
This is the ingredient list;
Beef, liver, rice, menhaden oil, chicken, chicken digest, iron oxide, dried beet pulp, cellulose, potassium
citrate, calcium carbonate, L-arginine, dicalcium phosphate, taurine, vitamins and trace elements.

Foods of this nature are meant to maintain quality of life for as long as possible with terminally ill dogs.

For nonprescription dry foods Blue Wilderness and EVO come as close as possible, and this is what these diets were designed for —- NOT for the feeding of a healthy house pet.

I wanted to take some time today to tell everyone about a great new resource for hypoallergenic dog biscuit recipes. It is a book called Boneappetreat, healthy recipes for your furry friend. This book and it’s author Laurie Southall are just great. Laurie is from Canada and she decided to put together some hypoallergenic dog biscuit and treat recipes when her own dog, Stanley became allergic to wheat. She has privately published the book and sells it from her website in Canada. Her recipes use no wheat, wheat gluten, dairy, corn, or soy. So she is definitely on the right track for making hypoallergenic treats. In her book of recipes she recommends all organic ingredients such as peanut butter, or almond butter, bananas, goat cheese, and a mineral broth that can be used instead of plain water for baking the dog biscuits and or can be added to the dog’s food. The broth can be made and like human foods then frozen for latter use, I recommend using an ice cube tray so you have several small portions which you can use individually at a latter date. Laurie has had some health issues of her own and has thoroughly researched her cooking methods. As an example she mentions that using distilled water to make the mineral broth is the best way to draw the minerals out of meat bones as they cook in the broth. Also she tells you about extracting the bone marrow from the cooked bones as an added treat for your dog. Her peanut butter and banana biscuit recipe yields 200 biscuits and only uses very few ingredients and is easy to make. She also has a recipe for “Ruffogies” which is a take off on the Perogie. It is made using organic goat cheese, sweet potato, spelt flour and sea salt, what could be easier? This recipe yields 100 biscuits. All in all Laurie’s book for making hypoallergenic dog biscuits and treats is excellent and also is very low cost. It is $14.99 and I am not sure if there is additional S&H on that and or tax. But I really would recommend it highly for low cost dog biscuit recipes that are healthy and that your dog will enjoy. Her website is www.boneappetreat.ca Pay attention to the ca. because she is located in Canada. Also I wanted to let you know that we prepared some of the peanut butter banana biscuits for our dogs and they were a great hit, in fact now there is no going back to the old style of treats. Seriously folks an hour or so you can have 300 biscuits baked and believe me your best friend will thank you!.
